The singer made these costs by engaging the lawyer couple Geert-Jan and Carry Knoops, using various experts and using a private security company to travel to court.
The 59-year-old singer, who was present in court this morning, was acquitted of touching a girl in her bedroom at the end of 2025 after a legal process that lasted four years. Her mother was the chairman of Borsato's fan club. The judge ruled that there was insufficient evidence to support the accusations against the singer.

That someone who has been acquitted reclaims the costs of his defence is not unique, but that there is so much attention to it. A case for recovering legal costs is often dismissed in writing. Whether the money recovered is actually paid out must be checked by the court.
In the courtroom, the Public Prosecutor's Office (OM) questions whether all sums claimed by Borsato are eligible for reimbursement. For example, the prosecution points out that an expert's judgment did not appear in the judgment. It also doubts whether everything billed by the lawyers' couple Knoops should be reimbursed. Some of them do, but the costs of rebutting rumors in the media, for example, are not, the prosecution says. The court also wonders whether it was necessary for Borsato to hire lawyers before the actual report was filed. According to the singer, he had to because he was an audience figure and rumors about him could be "desastreus" for his career.
Carry Knoops furthermore points to Borsato's huge decline in turnover as a singer from the moment the accusations came out. She wonders what acquittal is worth if he has to pay the costs himself.

For all the versions released, the song has a special title: Everlasting Love is the only number that has had a hitnotation in the UK in the 60s, 70, 80, 90 and 00.
But the music continued to sound and with different bands he continued to travel the UK for decades, until his health stopped. Because of lung problems, he stopped performing last year. Reluctantly. "Unfortunately we have not been able to find a good form for this. As a result, we have to conclude that it is too early to participate in the Eurovision Song Contest in 2027. The sensitive issue is Israel's participation. Several European broadcasters believe Israel should be excluded because of the devastating war in Gaza.
"We already know for some time that Israel's participation evokes various reactions in society and causes discussion and division," says Jurre Bosman, Media Director at the NPO. "That is also the case among broadcasters and employees and we understand that sensitivity."
Bosman says that the NPO only wants to send artists to the song festival if they can get the full support of one or more broadcasters. The NPO says to stay in conversation with the EBU about the future of the song festival.
The College of Broadcasts says in a response that it is good "that there is now clarity about the upcoming edition and that we will continue to talk about the future of the Song Festival in public broadcasting."
At the end of last month, the NPO announced that after a year of absence, despite Israel's participation, the Netherlands would again participate in the song festival. The Dutch entry would be a joint project of public service broadcasting, coordinated by the broadcasting umbrella.
The decision was a result of the withdrawal from AVROTROS. What is it like to work as a woman in the dancecene? Two DJs tell about it in this podcast: Olive Anguz, who plays ADE for the second time, and Isis, who has been there all 30 editions.
What once started as a conference on dance music for a few hundred connoisseurs in debate centre De Balie, has become a cultural event with panels, festivals and parties throughout the city. More than 300 locations are involved, from large festival locations such as the Johan Cruijff Arena to small clubs, vinyl stores, theatres, cafés, hockey clubs and even nursing homes. The distribution of locations has increased over the years. 30 years ago, ADE only played in clubs and in downtown locations, such as Paradiso, the Milky Way and Escape. Something is happening in every district of Amsterdam, and even outside.
For the second year in a row, the organization behind Awakenings organises all his parties in the SugarFactory, the former sugar factory in Halfweg.
This broadening can also be seen in the art and culture programme. The National Ballet and the Concertgebouw Orchestra perform and there are dance performances, art projects and audiovisual installations, for example in the Old Church.
Anne van der Weijden is curator of this part of ADE. "When I started in 2023, about twenty locations spread across the citymee and I was alone responsible for the program. This year there are 72 locations, often with daily performances or performances, and I have a team behind me. This means that we can not only programme more, but also come up with a broader and more diverse offer."Where funds previously left the night culture, Van der Weijden increasingly sees willingness to invest in the art and culture program of ADE, which is a foundation. According to Wiecher Troost, responsible for programming the event, electronic music and night culture are being taken more seriously by policy makers.
The corona period has been an important tilting point, he says. "Since then, funds have seen much better what lives among young people in nightlife. Young and diverse policy makers have been key drivers in this process."
Electronic dance music blew over thirty years ago from the US to Europe and found its origin in clubs. But there is a much broader culture around that, says Troost. "Think about dance, video art, light art, decor building and other forms of art. Night culture is much more than raven."
Slowly but surely the image that ADE only revolves around drugs and celebrations that go on deep into the night. The black and yellow ADE flags that are hanging all over Amsterdam today were still unthinkable in the early years. This was mainly for other cultural events.
Many people who grew up with dance don't want to spend the night in a club, but to stay connected to the nightlife and culture around it, see Troost. "This is a development that we also see in other target groups."
Two residential care locations in the Jordaan are participating in ADE for the first time this year. "We wanted to do something different than normal for once," says activity director Chiara Cherillo of De Rietvinck. There will be a ravebingo this afternoon.
"We have arranged a DJ that rotates a mild form of techno, interspersed with Jordan classics," says Cherillo. "We have a bingo attached to it. The winner gets a new rollator and a festival ticket." At another location, near the Makroon, there will be a Rollator Rave on the schedule.
With flyers at cafes in the Jordaan, Cherillo hired volunteers for the two events. The idea behind it was to connect the younger and older generation. "We want our residents to remain part of society and remain involved in what is going on in Amsterdam."
The living environment of residents of a residential care location is often small, says Cherillo. "When people come by from outside, it gives extra attention. That means a lot to our residents. We also want to convey a certain image: a residential care location can participate in ADE."
Amsterdam places with their own supporters increasingly join ADE, from a yogas studio that organises a special technosession to a family rave for parents and children or a net delivered, leading building opening its doors to the public.
Comfort understands that trend. "You're part of something bigger that happens in the city." In his view, this broadening should remain central over the next 30 years." We're already at our limit of 600,000 visitors a year. Our goal is not to get bigger, but to involve more communities in ADE."
The 66-year-old artist says to focus on his television work and his own performances. According to Joling, it hasn't been an easy decision. "I am incredibly proud and grateful for having been able to do this for years. It's probably never gonna happen to me again that I'm in such a big arena, but I've enjoyed it."
The Toppers concerts at the Johan Cruyff Arena in Amsterdam are sold out every year. The idea arose when René Froger got his colleagues Gordon and Gerard Joling on stage during a performance. That was remarkable, because Gordon and Joling had an argument, which they publicly fought with each other.
In 2005 followed the first official edition of De Toppers in Concert, with Gordon, Joling and Froger standing in the Arena for two days in a row. The band's occupation has changed here and there in recent years, but since 2017 the formation consists of Jeroen van der Boom, René Froger, Gerard Joling and Jan Smit. This week, according to entertainment site TMZ, Diddy got involved in a fight. He would have fought with a fellow inmate. The reason for the fight is unknown. Diddy then had to be treated outside the prison for his injuries. The American prison system doesn't say why Diddy was transferred. However, due to the fuss, he would have taken 41 days to reduce his sentence due to good behavior. He was released on March 2, 2028.
Diddy was sentenced one year ago to four years and two months in a sex case. He was found guilty of transporting persons for prostitution.
During the process, women described that they had been beaten, threatened, sexually abused and blackmailed by him. One of his ex-girlfriends spoke of drug marathons where she had to perform sexual acts on male sex workers. Diddy filmed that and gave clues. The rapper never pleaded guilty.

Last week the artist lost his place in Ed Sheeran's support programme on his tour in the US. This includes the way the films are financed. "The dependence of the Film Fund is high," says spokesperson Marieke van Zakk. "We never fund an entire film. Makers should always look for other jars."
And that is not easy in the Netherlands. Abroad, according to the Film Fund, there are more opportunities to attract private investment from companies, for example. Partly because of this, foreign filmmakers often have higher budgets.

Multiple Dutch films won international awards last year. Nina Gantz won a Bafta in England for Wander to Wonder and Victoria Warmerdam got an Oscar for I'm not a Robot. The film Rietland of Sven Bresser was the first Dutch film in 27 years selected for the prestigious competition La Semaine de la Critique at the Cannes Film Festival.
But something has to happen if we want Dutch films to stay successful, was recently in a research commissioned by the Ministry of Education, Culture and Science. Because success is threatened on multiple fronts.
For example, production costs have increased considerably, both labour costs and the cost of building a set. "The subsidies have increased, but not enough to cover it," says producer Swart. In addition, films face considerable competition from streaming services. The market for Dutch films is also relatively small. "France has a larger language area," says Swart. "It's easier to sell."
For the production of Downtown the makers received money from the Dutch Film Fund. They also used a so-called production incentive, which knows the Netherlands. In doing so,film producers get a certain percentage of the costs incurred. But the disadvantage of that construction is that this is paid out of a pot, says Swart. "And when it's empty, sometimes you can't move on."
Downtown is also partly financed by the Flemish Audiovisual Fund. Swart says that this kind of money from abroad is always subject to agreements. "We are now working with a Belgian crew."
And filmmakers made use of a Belgian tax regime, the so-called tax shelter. Companies based in Belgium get tax advantages when they invest in films. He hopes that the Netherlands will have a similar arrangement.
In this summer's survey, it is recommended to increase the possibilities to attract private investors. Last week, Minister Letschert announced in a letter to the House of Representatives that she will return to this in the autumn of 2027.
The band was founded exactly fifty years ago, after the then 14-year-old Larry Mullen posted a message on a bulletin board with the text "Drummer seeks musicians to start a band." The auditions were a few days later, on September 25, 1976, at Larry Mullen's house.
Bono almost skipped the audition because he was a few months older than Mullen and was afraid he wouldn't fit in. And Adam Clayton was still a bass player who couldn't play bass. He was selected because he had "the most beautiful hair."
The young band started under the name Feedback and alongside Larry Mullen consisted of singer Paul Hewson (the real name of Bono), guitarist David Evans (The Edge) and bassist Adam Clayton.

The performance is part of the promotion for their new album Carnival De Luz which will be released in November. That album also contains a duet by Bono with the last month's death singer Dolly Parton.
When announcing the song Vertigo he makes another school-related joke. The song starts with uno, dos, tres, catorce (one, two, three, fourteen) and Bono said: "If you want to take Spanish lessons, don't take them with me."

Swift won last night the main prize of the award show: the Video of the Year, for her clip for The Fate of Ophelia. She also won the Best Direction Award and was the first to receive a new award, one for Artist-Director.
This last prize is meant for artists who have continued with their work behind the camera video clips as a genre. Swift wrote and directed almost a third of the sixty video clips she released to date.
The pop singer dedicated her victory to the previous month deceasedcountry icon Dolly Parton. She called her "the ultimate showgirl," referring to the title of Swift's last album: "I think we're all lucky to share this planet with Dolly Parton for a while," Swift said.

Although Swift went home with a record, the great winner of the evening was Madonna. The Queen of Pop made her comeback with her album Confessions II and dragged in no less than seven VMAs, including Artist of the Year, Best Dance and Best Collaboration (with Sabrina Carpenter).
With her catch last night, the 68-year-old American singer also comes close to Taylor Swift's record. Madonna is now third on the eternal VMA ranking, with 27 prizes.
The prize for Best Song went to K-pop group BTS, whose members after years of absence due to military service in South Korea this year made another album. Their number Swim fell twice in the prizes, and BTS also won the statue for Best Group.
In the category Best Song defeated BTS' Swim among others Ella Langleys Choosin' Texas. That record is a sensation in the US and has been number one in the American charts for 23 weeks. With that went last week the record of Mariah Careys All I Want for Christmas Is You - which was number 1 for 22 weeks - from the books. Choosin' Texas won Best Country Song.
Today the VMAs are considered important international pop prizes. By the way, Madonna was also present at the first ceremony: she performed in 1984 with her hit Like a Virgin.
